Motherhood is filled with love, joy, and unforgettable moments—but let’s be honest, it can also feel overwhelming. The constant demands of parenting, coupled with the pressure to “do it all,” leave many moms feeling exhausted, inadequate, and unsure of how to find balance.
In this podcast episode, Morgan welcomes Tia Stout, and together they dive deep into the reality of chronic overwhelm in young mothers. They explore practical ways to reclaim peace, confidence, and joy. Whether it’s the stress of comparison, the struggle to communicate needs effectively, or the guilt of taking time for yourself, you’re not alone in these feelings. You’re want to listen for more on How to overcome overwhelm as a young mom.
Here’s a look at some of the key takeaways from the conversation—but trust us, you’ll want to listen to the full episode for even more insight and encouragement!
In a world where social media constantly showcases curated, picture-perfect motherhood, it’s easy to feel like you’re falling short. Scrolling through Instagram can make it seem like other moms have spotless homes, well-behaved children, and unlimited patience—when in reality, they are likely struggling with the same challenges.
One of the most powerful steps you can take in protecting your peace is to curate your social media feed. If certain accounts leave you feeling discouraged rather than inspired, it’s okay to unfollow or mute them. Surround yourself with voices that uplift and encourage you, rather than fuel comparison and self-doubt.
A big contributor to chronic overwhelm is setting unrealistic expectations for yourself. It’s easy to fall into the mindset that everything needs to be perfect—the house spotless, the kids entertained, homemade meals on the table, and work deadlines met. But in reality, perfection is unattainable, and trying to achieve it only leads to burnout.
Instead of holding yourself to impossible standards, try setting manageable daily goals. Accomplishing even small tasks, like unloading the dishwasher or taking five minutes for yourself, can bring a sense of achievement and control. The key is to shift your mindset—progress, not perfection.
Music is an incredibly simple yet effective tool for emotional regulation. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try putting on a playlist that lifts your spirits or calms your nerves. Whether it’s upbeat songs for a dance break with your kids or soft instrumental music to reset your mood, music has the power to shift emotions quickly.
The best part? You don’t have to carve out extra time for this—it can be as easy as turning on a playlist while cooking dinner or driving to the store.
Many mothers struggle with asking for help, often feeling like they need to carry the full weight of parenting alone. But the reality is, it’s okay to need support, and it’s okay to ask for it.
One of the most important tools to overcome overwhelm as a young mom is clear and assertive communication—especially with your partner. Instead of expecting them to “just know” what you need, be direct about what would help. Whether it’s asking for 30 minutes of uninterrupted time or dividing household tasks more evenly. Having open communication is key to avoiding resentment and burnout.
One of the most important lessons from this conversation is that you don’t have to do motherhood alone. Having a supportive community—whether it’s family, friends, or other moms—makes a world of difference in navigating the challenges of parenting.
If you don’t already have a strong support system, consider finding a local moms’ group, joining online communities, or reaching out to other parents in your area. Sometimes, support doesn’t show up unless we actively seek it out.
And remember, seeking help isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of strength. Whether that means talking to a trusted friend, attending therapy, or even considering medication if needed. Prioritizing your well-being is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family.
